Import Export Code (also known as IEC code) is a 10 digit identification number that is issued by the DGFT (Director General of Foreign Trade), Department of Commerce, Government of India. It is also known as Importer Exporter Code. ... It is not possible to deal with export or import business without this IEC code.
An Importer -Exporter Code (IEC) is a key business identification number which mandatory for export from India or Import to India. For services exports however, IEC shall be not be necessary except when the service provider is taking benefits under the Foreign Trade Policy.
Do We Need an IEC for Export Services? Simple answer, yes you do. Without an IEC code, merchants will be unable to export goods and services to other countries. The IEC Code is required by the Customs Port in case a merchant is exporting goods and services.
IEC code number registration fee is worth Rs. 250.00 and can be pay via EFT (Electronic Fund Transfer), and submit IEC Online Application form. For an instant, the physical application containing required documents should reach DGFT RLA concerned within 15 days of its online submission.
